Sold secure, the company

Sold Secure is a non-profit making company dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products.

Sold Secure was established in 1992 by Northumbria and Essex Police with the help and backing of the Home Office. Sold Secure is now administered by the Master Locksmiths Association and works from purpose built laboratories in Daventry.

The scheme has close ties with a number of constabularies and insurers who provide regular information regarding the methods of theft and the tools utilised by criminals in their areas. This helps to maintain up to date specifications and means security products can be assessed in the light of the risk they are likely to encounter when in use. Now products are tested by a highly motivated team of professional locksmiths under the direction of a small board of directors who meet on a regular basis to administer the scheme and move the process forward in keeping with modern theft methods.

Sold Secure‘s only source of income is from the fees it levies to undertake its work. However, as the company does not have to pay dividends to shareholders it is able to offer its services at very competitive rates. All surplus income is reinvested in crime prevention.

Manufacturers and suppliers can apply to have their products approved by Sold Secure. Products which have been satisfactorily assessed may bear the Sold Secure Quality Mark. Information on these approved products is circulated by Sold Secure to crime prevention officers, insurance companies, the media, the Home Office and the public, and is available free to those who require it.

· Buildings = Domestic and commercial locks, bolts, padlocks and anti ram raid posts

· Leisure = Security for bicycles, caravans and trailers

· Safes = A generic name for security enclosures, safes, tool boxes and more

Motorcycle security, levels of testing explained

· BRONZE - Products. Offering theft resistance against the basic tool list (aimed at preventing opportunist crime).

· SILVER - Products. Offering theft resistance against enhanced tool list (aimed at preventing more determined attacks).

· GOLD - Products - Highest Approval. Offering theft resistance against the full tool list (aimed at preventing dedicated attacks).

A Sold Secure approved product has successfully withstood twelve different attack methods of five minutes each before being awarded its certificate.

The average thief will give up after two and a half minutes because of risk of discovery

Why do we need to “Sold secure testing” on “motorcycle security products?”

Motorcycles

Around 50,000 motorcycles are stolen in this country every year. Many of these are broken down for spares and less than a quarter are ever recovered. A very high percentage of those stolen are actually taken from outside their owners’ homes. It has been interesting to note that a £7000 bike parked in a busy main road may sport several security devices but when at home the bike is propped up against a dustbin in the front garden. A determined thief will take some risks to secure the bike he wants even to lifting them over gates with a crane!

Sold Secure has a single level of Motorcycle Security Approval. Both mechanical and electronic security devices are certified to the same high level. Using a fully specified burglar’s toolkit the motorcycle is proven safe from the average thief. There are a number of options for security at home and also when parked away from home.

Security Advice from Sold Secure

Sold secure tests equipment to reduce the risk of crime. A thief will not want to spend excessive time to steal. Thus our tested products are designed to cause the thief the most amount of stress. Our advice is to ALWAYS buy the best security devices you can afford make sure it has the Sold Secure logo clearly displayed. Always use secure parking areas for all vehicles or if none are available park in a well-lit busy area. Never leave ANY item on show in a vehicle; a finished sandwich bag may look like shopping to a desperate drug dependant. Sold Secure is an independent test laboratory, we test using methods used by thieves with the added advantage that all out testers are also skilled locksmiths.
